The Salt Hound Fit Experience
Find the fit you will keep reaching for.
Clothing should feel familiar—not complicated. Begin with how you like to wear it, then use an honest garment-to-garment comparison before choosing.
Find my starting pointOur fit philosophy
Good fit should never require a leap of faith.
Salt Hound apparel is selected for movement, comfort, useful layering, and the quiet confidence of a piece that earns its place over time.
Would you still reach for this five years from now?
That question guides the silhouette, fabric, construction, photography, and language we use. We publish exact measurements only when they are supported by approved physical evidence.
A better place to begin
Three questions. One clear direction.
Your starting point
Begin with your usual size.
Choose the size you wear most often for the intended Salt Hound silhouette, then compare a favorite garment using the method below.

Clean—not tight. Relaxed—not oversized.
Product guidance
Choose the garment. Learn its character.
Each product has its own relationship between fabric, construction, and intended silhouette. These guides give direction without inventing measurements.
01Essential T-shirtsEveryday unisex fit
Intended fit
Comfortable through the chest and body with an easy, familiar silhouette. Begin with your usual size.
Choose differently when
Size down only for a deliberately closer fit. Size up for more drape or a clearly oversized look.
Best comparison
Use a favorite tee with similar fabric weight. Compare chest width, body length, and sleeve shape.
02Heavyweight sweatshirtsRelaxed and layer-ready
Intended fit
Relaxed and substantial, with room for movement and light layering. Heavy fleece creates structure rather than cling.
Choose differently when
Stay with your usual size for the intended fit. Size up for pronounced layering or an intentionally oversized silhouette.
What changes with wear
The garment may feel structured at first and soften over time while retaining its essential shape.
03HatsShape, depth, and adjustment
Start with comfort
The hat should sit securely without pressure at the temples or forehead.
Set the closure
Begin neutral and adjust in small increments. The crown should feel stable, never compressed.
Wear it naturally
Position it where it balances comfortably on your head—not where a product photograph suggests it should sit.
How to measure
Measure the garment you already love.
Lay a similar garment flat without stretching it. A garment-to-garment comparison is usually more useful than measuring your body.
Chest width
Measure straight across approximately one inch below the armholes. Double only when comparing to a chest circumference.
Body length
Measure from the highest shoulder point beside the collar straight down to the bottom hem.
Sleeve
Measure from the center back neck across the shoulder and down to the sleeve edge or cuff.
Fabric changes everything
Weight shapes the way a garment fits.
Light knits follow the body. Heavy fleece holds its own silhouette. Neither should be judged by the same expectation.
