Services are first-come, first-served, capacity is not guaranteed, and pets must be at least six weeks old and well enough for vaccination. Bring prior records when available and ask a veterinarian which vaccines fit your dog.

An application is required for upcoming clinics. Fees effective February 1, 2026 include a DHPP vaccination and microchip for dogs. CCHS asks people unable to pay the listed fee to contact the program, but additional help is not guaranteed. Eligibility, surgical suitability and care instructions should be confirmed with the program and veterinary team.

Applications are closed for the weekend and are scheduled to reopen Monday, September 28 at 9 a.m. Pacific. Applicants and animals must live in the U.S.; household income cannot exceed $60,000. A current diagnosis, favorable treatment plan and estimate are required. Grants do not cover exams, diagnostics, routine or ongoing care; the remaining funding gap must be under $500. Funding is not guaranteed—do not delay immediate care.

Proof of Contra Costa County residency is required, and the crisis must otherwise put the pet at risk of shelter surrender. Assistance is not available for immediate veterinary care, chronic or poor-prognosis treatment, long-term boarding or ongoing daily care. Availability and approval are not guaranteed.
